Morton’s arrival also marks a return to familiar surroundings, with the forward having originally started his football journey at Torquay United.

Return to His Hometown Club

Born in Torquay, Morton spent time in the Gulls’ youth system before the club closed its academy in 2015.

Following that setback, he continued his development through academy spells at Yeovil Town and later West Bromwich Albion.

During his time with West Bromwich Albion, Morton gained valuable senior experience through multiple loan spells across the English Football League.

He featured for clubs including:

  • Northampton Town
  • Lincoln City
  • Fleetwood Town
  • Peterborough United

Those experiences helped establish him as a proven forward across both League One and League Two football.

Career Journey Across EFL and National League

Morton later secured a permanent move to Fleetwood Town in the summer of 2022 before joining Salford City in January 2023.

He subsequently moved to Bristol Rovers in autumn 2024 before joining Worthing at the beginning of this season.

Across his career so far, Morton has scored 34 goals in 173 appearances spanning both the EFL and National League levels.

While his goal return has fluctuated during different stages of his career, he remains a forward with strong experience and familiarity with the physical demands of lower-league football.

Important Early Signing for Torquay

For Torquay United, bringing Morton back to his hometown club could prove an important statement early in the summer window.

The club appears eager to strengthen its attacking options with experienced players capable of contributing immediately.

Morton’s knowledge of the lower leagues and his versatility across attacking positions may provide Torquay with additional flexibility going forward.

Supporters will also likely welcome the emotional aspect of a local player returning to represent his hometown side.

Fresh Opportunity to Rebuild Career Momentum

The move offers Morton another opportunity to rediscover consistency and rebuild momentum in a familiar environment.

Returning to Torquay could provide the striker with stability and a strong connection to both the club and local supporters.

For players who have spent years moving between clubs and loan spells, returning home can sometimes provide the platform needed to produce their best football again.

As Torquay begin shaping their squad for the upcoming campaign, Morton’s signing could become one of the early foundations of the club’s summer rebuild.
