sevendayweekender – Hamburg are in advanced talks to sign Arsenal midfielder Fabio Vieira in a deal worth €10m, or approximately £8.6m.
The German club is negotiating with Arsenal as the transfer deadline approaches on Tuesday. The Gunners are actively working to find a permanent solution for the 26-year-old midfielder.
There is growing confidence at the Emirates Stadium that an agreement can be reached. Arsenal are increasingly expected to complete Vieira’s departure before the deadline.

Vieira spent last season on loan at Hamburg. During his temporary spell, he made 29 Bundesliga appearances for the German club.
The Portuguese midfielder scored seven goals during those league appearances. His performances helped Hamburg assess his qualities before potentially pursuing a permanent transfer.
The proposed deal would bring an end to Vieira’s time at Arsenal. The midfielder joined the Gunners from Porto in 2022 for a reported £34m fee.
Arsenal signed Vieira with expectations that he could become an important creative presence. However, he struggled to establish himself as a regular starter in north London.
Vieira made 47 appearances for Arsenal across competitions. Only five of those appearances came as Premier League starts.
His limited opportunities ultimately led to several loan spells away from the club. Arsenal sent him back to Porto during the 2024-25 campaign.
Vieira then moved to Hamburg for the following season. His regular Bundesliga involvement provided him with significantly more playing opportunities.
The seven goals he scored for Hamburg also represented an important contribution. His performances appear to have encouraged the German side to pursue a permanent agreement.
Fabio Vieira Could Leave Arsenal After Multiple Loan Spells
The proposed €10m transfer would represent a significant reduction from the fee Arsenal paid for Vieira. The Gunners spent £34m to bring him from Porto in 2022.
Vieira’s Arsenal career never developed as the club initially hoped. His five Premier League starts underline the difficulty he experienced establishing himself in the first team.
The midfielder’s return to Porto during the 2024-25 season provided another opportunity for regular football. However, Arsenal subsequently allowed him to join Hamburg on loan.
Hamburg offered Vieira a more consistent role during the previous campaign. His 29 Bundesliga appearances gave him valuable experience in German football.
His seven league goals also demonstrated his attacking contribution. That production could be one reason Hamburg are now prepared to invest in a permanent transfer.
For Arsenal, the deal would provide an opportunity to remove another player from the squad. The club is actively attempting to complete the midfielder’s departure before Tuesday’s deadline.
There is an increasing expectation within Arsenal that negotiations will result in an agreement. However, the transfer still needs to be finalized before it becomes official.
Vieira’s potential move would also close a four-year chapter at the Emirates. His Arsenal career began with a significant transfer fee but ultimately produced limited Premier League starts.
The midfielder’s time at Porto and Hamburg has allowed him to continue developing away from Arsenal. A permanent move could now provide greater stability for the next stage of his career.
Hamburg would also gain a player already familiar with the club. Vieira spent the previous season there and made a substantial number of Bundesliga appearances.
His knowledge of the team and German football could help ease the transition into a permanent role. Hamburg would also be acquiring a midfielder who contributed seven league goals last season.

Vieira’s Arsenal departure would therefore conclude a period marked by limited first-team opportunities and multiple loan spells. His next move could offer the consistency he lacked in north London.
