sevendayweekender – Manchester City have reached an agreement with Nottingham Forest to sign England midfielder Elliot Anderson in a deal worth £116 million. According to sources close to the Premier League champions.
The 23-year-old is now set to undergo a medical before completing his move to the Etihad Stadium. With personal terms not expected to present any obstacles.
If finalized, the transfer will become the most expensive signing in Manchester City’s history.
Transfer Fee Could Break British Record
Manchester City sources maintain that the agreed fee is £116 million with no performance-related add-ons included.
However, other reports suggest the overall package could rise to £130 million. Which would make Anderson the most expensive player ever signed by a British club.
That figure would surpass the previous British transfer record of £125 million. Set when Liverpool signed striker Alexander Isak from Newcastle United last summer.
Nottingham Forest had previously rejected two offers from City before accepting the club’s third bid after holding out for a higher valuation.
Anderson Set for Etihad Switch After Impressive Forest Spell
Anderson joined Nottingham Forest from Newcastle United in 2024 in a deal worth £35 million. Since arriving at the City Ground, he has made 88 appearances across all competitions and scored four goals. Establishing himself as one of the club’s key midfielders.
He played an important role in helping Forest finish seventh in the Premier League during the 2024-25 season before the club ended the following campaign in 16th place while also reaching the UEFA Europa League semi-finals.
His consistent performances also earned him recognition at international level with England. Despite ongoing speculation surrounding his future, Anderson recently insisted his full attention remains on international duty.
“It’s pretty easy really, I’m just focusing on the present, I’m blocking it all out,” Anderson said. “I’ve got a plan and it’s to perform for England. I’m putting myself in the best position to cross the line and do that.”
Nottingham Forest Prepare Midfield Rebuild
With Anderson’s departure imminent, Nottingham Forest are expected to strengthen their midfield during the summer transfer window.
The club has identified Tottenham Hotspur youngster Lucas Bergvall and Inter Milan midfielder Davide Frattesi as potential transfer targets.
For Manchester City, the signing represents another major investment in midfield quality as Pep Guardiola’s side looks to remain competitive in both domestic and European competitions.
Should the deal be completed at the reported value. Elliot Anderson will become the most expensive signing in Manchester City’s history and potentially the most expensive transfer ever completed between British clubs.
