sevendayweekender – West Bromwich Albion have signed midfielder Toby Collyer from Manchester United for an undisclosed transfer fee.
The 22-year-old midfielder has agreed to a four-year contract with the Championship club. Collyer already knows The Hawthorns well after spending the first half of last season on loan with Albion.
He made 12 Championship appearances during that spell before moving to Hull City. The midfielder then helped Hull City secure promotion to the Premier League during the second half of the campaign.
His return to West Brom makes him the club’s ninth summer signing so far. Albion have also strengthened their squad with arrivals including Jimmy-Jay Morgan and Conor Townsend.
Collyer’s permanent move gives West Brom a player with recent Championship experience and familiarity with the club. The midfielder also gained valuable experience at Manchester United during the 2024-25 season.
He made 13 appearances across all competitions for the Red Devils during that campaign. Collyer made his competitive Manchester United debut against Liverpool in September 2024.
United suffered a 3-0 home defeat in that fixture, which marked the midfielder’s first competitive appearance for the club.
Collyer Explains Why He Wanted To Return To West Brom
Collyer said several factors influenced his decision to return to West Brom on a permanent basis. The midfielder particularly highlighted the club’s size and his positive experience during his previous loan spell.
“There were a few reasons why I was so keen to return,” Collyer told Albion’s website. “The size of the club is one of them. I also really enjoyed my time here on loan.”
Collyer also pointed to the influence of manager James Morrison as another important reason behind his decision.
Morrison was reportedly keen to bring the midfielder back after his successful initial spell with the club.
“Another reason was the manager, James Morrison,” Collyer said. “He was really keen to have me back and that’s all you want in football.”
His comments underline the importance of the manager’s confidence in his decision to return. Collyer now has the opportunity to establish himself at West Brom after previously experiencing the club on loan.

His previous Championship appearances should also help him adapt quickly to Albion’s plans. The four-year contract gives both Collyer and West Brom a long-term opportunity to build on their previous relationship.
For Albion, his arrival represents another significant addition as the club continues shaping its squad for the new campaign.
For Collyer, the move provides a chance to secure regular football after his development at Manchester United and Hull City.
His experience across three clubs could prove valuable as West Brom continue their push for success in the Championship.
