The midfielder has spent the past five years developing within Brighton’s academy system after joining the Seagulls from MK Dons in 2021. During his time on the south coast. He represented Brighton’s Under-21 side and gained experience in the EFL Trophy, making four appearances across the past two seasons.

The move to Gillingham marks the first senior step of his career and provides an opportunity to establish himself in the English Football League.

Speaking after agreeing the transfer, Albarus expressed his excitement about beginning a new chapter at Priestfield Stadium.

“I am so excited to join and be on board for next season,” he said.

“This will be my first opportunity in a senior team and playing EFL football. I can’t wait. I put 110% into everything I do. am raring to go.”

The signing represents another piece of summer business for manager Gareth Ainsworth as he looks to reshape his squad ahead of the new campaign.

Albarus becomes the club’s second addition of the transfer window following the arrival of midfielder James Brophy from Cambridge United FC.

Ainsworth is expected to continue strengthening the squad after a disappointing campaign that saw Gillingham finish 17th in League Two.

The manager has been tasked with guiding the club back toward the promotion race and building a younger, more dynamic squad capable of competing near the top of the division.

Analytics-Based Recruitment Shapes Gillingham’s Summer Strategy

Albarus’ arrival also reflects a broader change in Gillingham’s recruitment philosophy under owner Brad Galinson.

The club owner has previously stated his desire to move away from what he described as an “old-school” transfer strategy and instead adopt a more analytics-driven approach to player recruitment.

That strategy focuses on identifying promising young players with strong development potential and untapped value, rather than relying solely on established names or traditional scouting methods. Albarus appears to fit that profile closely.

Although he has yet to make a senior league appearance. The midfielder arrives with experience in a respected academy system. And has spent several years developing at one of the Premier League’s most highly regarded youth setups.

Brighton’s academy has built a strong reputation for producing talented young players and preparing them for professional football. Making Albarus an intriguing prospect for Gillingham supporters.

The club will hope he can translate his youth-level performances into consistent contributions at senior level.

The midfielder’s enthusiasm for the move suggests he is eager to embrace the challenge and make an immediate impact.

Meanwhile, Gareth Ainsworth will be hoping the signing represents another step toward transforming Gillingham into promotion contenders.
