Charlton Bring in Nottingham Forest Defender Bindon

sevendayweekender – Charlton Athletic have signed defender Tyler Bindon on a season-long loan from Premier League club Nottingham Forest.

The 21-year-old defender joined Forest from Reading in February 2025 for an undisclosed transfer fee. However, Bindon has yet to make a first-team appearance for the Premier League side.

The New Zealand international now returns to the Championship after spending last season with Sheffield United.

Bindon made 25 appearances for Sheffield United during his loan spell with the club. He also scored one goal during his time with the Championship side.

His experience at Sheffield United gives Charlton another defender with recent exposure to the division. Bindon will now look to continue his development while competing for regular football at The Valley.

The move also gives him another opportunity to gain senior experience away from his parent club. Forest can benefit from his continued development while Charlton strengthen their defensive options for the season.

Bindon’s international career has also provided him with valuable experience at senior level. He represented New Zealand during the summer’s World Cup tournament.

The defender played in all three of the Kiwis’ group-stage matches during the competition. New Zealand were unable to advance to the knockout stage after completing their group fixtures.

Nathan Jones Welcomes Long-Term Target To Charlton

Charlton manager Nathan Jones revealed that Bindon is a player he has admired for a considerable period. Jones also explained that injuries had forced Charlton to react when assessing their squad requirements.

“Obviously we had to be reactive with certain injuries that we had,” Jones told the club website. “But Tyler is a player that I’ve known for a long, long time and have tried to sign.”

The Charlton boss believes Bindon can strengthen the squad and improve the team’s defensive options. “He’s a player that will add to us and improve our squad, so we’re looking forward to working with him,” Jones added.

Bindon’s previous Championship experience should help him adapt quickly to Charlton’s playing environment. His 25 appearances for Sheffield United provide a useful foundation ahead of his latest loan spell.

At only 21, the defender also has further opportunities to develop his game through regular competitive football. His international experience with New Zealand adds another dimension to his growing senior career.

Charlton will hope Bindon can translate that experience into consistent performances throughout the season. The season-long agreement gives him an extended opportunity to establish himself with the Addicks.

For Nottingham Forest, the loan provides Bindon with another pathway toward first-team development.

For Charlton, his arrival strengthens the squad with a young defender who already understands Championship football. Bindon will now aim to make a strong impression during his latest spell in the second tier.
