sevendayweekender – Brentford have signed West Ham defender El Hadji Malick Diouf in a deal worth up to £40m. The 21-year-old Senegal international has joined the Bees on a five-year contract.
Brentford also have an option to extend Diouf’s contract by another year. The club will pay an initial £35m for the left-back, with a further £5m available in add-ons.
Diouf’s transfer brings him back to the Premier League after West Ham’s relegation last season. The Hammers finished 18th in the league and will compete in the Championship this campaign.

The defender made 34 appearances for West Ham last season. He also provided five assists during his first campaign with the club.
West Ham signed Diouf from Slavia Prague for £19m approximately one year ago. His departure therefore represents a significant profit for the London club.
Diouf began this season with West Ham and played in their Championship opener against Burnley. However, he was subsequently left out of the matchday squads for their next two games.
His absence came while Brentford and West Ham worked toward completing the transfer. Negotiations had previously stalled during the summer before discussions resumed earlier this week.
Brentford had identified Diouf as their priority defensive target during the transfer window. The club eventually reached an agreement to bring the defender to west London.
The signing gives Brentford another left-back with Premier League experience. Diouf also arrives with international experience after establishing himself with Senegal.
Brentford head coach Keith Andrews welcomed the defender’s arrival. He highlighted Diouf’s age and potential for further development.
