sevendayweekender – Inter Milan have completed the signing of Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones in a deal worth €35m (£30m). The 25-year-old midfielder has signed a contract with the Italian club until 2031.
Liverpool accepted an initial fee of €30m (£25.7m) for their academy graduate. The agreement also includes €5m (£4.3m) in potential add-ons.
Liverpool have negotiated a 10% sell-on clause as part of the transfer agreement. The clause will give the Premier League club a percentage of any future qualifying transfer involving Jones.
Jones said he was excited to join Inter after wanting the move for some time. He described the Italian club as the perfect place for the next stage of his career.
“It’s a club that I’ve wanted to join for a while now so I’m excited,” Jones said. “I think this is the perfect club.”
The transfer ends Jones’ 16-year association with Liverpool. He joined the club’s academy at the age of nine and progressed through its youth system.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp handed Jones his senior debut in 2019. The midfielder went on to make 228 appearances for Liverpool across all competitions.
During his time at Anfield, Jones developed into an established first-team midfielder. He also experienced several major successes with the club.
Last season, Jones made 49 appearances in all competitions for Liverpool. However, he started only 18 Premier League matches under manager Arne Slot.
The competition for midfield places limited Jones’ opportunities to secure a regular starting position. His departure now brings an end to his development and first-team career at Liverpool.
Inter had previously shown interest in Jones before completing the transfer. The Serie A champions explored a potential move during the January transfer window.
Inter proposed a loan arrangement that included an option or pathway toward a permanent transfer. Liverpool rejected that proposal and retained the midfielder for the remainder of the campaign.

Jones leaves Liverpool after spending the majority of his life with the club. His departure marks a significant change after progressing from academy football to the senior team.

“After 16 years, it’s time to say goodbye,” Jones wrote. He explained that Liverpool was the only club environment he had known before moving to Italy.
“I came here as a kid and I’m leaving as a man with a family of my own,” he added. Jones said this demonstrated how much of his life he had spent at Liverpool.
He also expressed his lasting connection with the club. Liverpool will remain an important part of his identity despite his move to Serie A.
“I came here as a kid with a dream, and I’m leaving having lived it,” Jones wrote. His message reflected the significance of his academy-to-first-team journey.
Jones now joins Inter as the third English player to arrive at the club during the summer. John Stones and Djed Spence have also moved to the Serie A champions.
His arrival adds another English option to Inter’s midfield group. Jones will now begin adapting to Italian football and a different tactical environment.
The six-year contract demonstrates Inter’s commitment to the midfielder’s long-term development. Jones will remain with the club until 2031 under the terms of the agreement.
