West Brom Complete Move for Matt Ingram

sevendayweekender – West Bromwich Albion have completed the signing of goalkeeper Matt Ingram from Oxford United for an undisclosed fee. The experienced shot-stopper has signed a two-year contract as the Baggies continue strengthening their squad ahead of the new Championship season.

The 32-year-old arrives at The Hawthorns after spending one season with Oxford United. Although he saw limited league action, West Brom believe his experience will add valuable competition to the goalkeeping department.

Ingram becomes another addition under head coach James Morrison, who continues rebuilding the squad following a difficult campaign.

The goalkeeper joins West Brom after Oxford United suffered relegation to League One at the end of last season. Despite signing a new two-year contract with Oxford during the summer of 2025, he has now opted for a fresh challenge in the Championship.

West Brom paid an undisclosed transfer fee to secure the move before the new campaign begins.

Ingram brings years of Football League experience to the Baggies, having previously represented Hull City before joining Oxford United in 2024.

The club hopes his leadership and experience will strengthen competition within the squad as preparations for the upcoming season continue.

Experienced Goalkeeper Ready for New Challenge

During his time at Oxford United, Ingram made just one Championship appearance. He also featured in three FA Cup matches and three League Cup fixtures.

Although opportunities in league competition proved limited, the goalkeeper remained an important member of the squad throughout the season.

Speaking after completing his move, Ingram expressed his excitement about joining West Brom.

“It’s a massive club with big ambition,” Ingram told the club’s official website.

“I know last year wasn’t the season anyone expected, but for me growing up, this was a Premier League club and it’s an offer too good to turn down.”

His comments underline the attraction of joining one of the Championship’s most established clubs despite last season’s struggles.

West Brom view Ingram as an experienced professional capable of contributing both on and off the pitch.

Competition Increases Under James Morrison

West Brom endured a disappointing 2025–26 campaign, finishing 21st in the Championship. The club avoided relegation by only four points.

The difficult season led to significant managerial changes. Ryan Mason and Eric Ramsay both left their positions before West Brom appointed James Morrison as permanent head coach in April.

Morrison has since begun reshaping the squad in preparation for the new season. Strengthening key positions remains one of the club’s priorities.

Ingram will compete with Max O’Leary and Josh Griffiths for the number one goalkeeper role. The increased competition should provide Morrison with greater depth and selection options.

The experienced goalkeeper will attempt to earn a regular starting place during preseason and establish himself as West Brom’s first-choice goalkeeper.

His arrival also provides additional leadership within a squad aiming to improve considerably after narrowly avoiding relegation.

With Matt Ingram joining on a two-year contract, West Bromwich Albion continue reinforcing their squad as James Morrison looks to guide the Baggies toward a far stronger Championship campaign than the one they experienced last season.
