sevendayweekender – Shrewsbury Town have signed Aston Villa goalkeeper Sam Proctor on a season-long loan deal. The 19-year-old becomes the club’s eighth signing of the summer transfer window. Proctor arrives from Villa’s academy after developing through the club’s youth system.
The goalkeeper has already collected significant honours at youth level. He helped Aston Villa win the FA Youth Cup during his academy career. He was also part of the squad that won the Under-18 Premier League title.
Proctor will now continue his development with Shrewsbury in senior football. The loan move provides him with an opportunity to gain competitive experience at a higher level. It also gives Shrewsbury additional depth and competition in the goalkeeping position.

The teenager will compete with Will Brook for the starting goalkeeper role. Brook was Shrewsbury’s regular goalkeeper last season. Proctor’s arrival therefore gives manager David Wagner another option between the posts.
