sevendayweekender – Sheffield United have signed former Crystal Palace and Leicester City forward Jordan Ayew until the end of the season.
The 34-year-old Ghana international became a free agent after leaving Leicester City at the end of last season.
The Foxes were relegated to League One, leaving Ayew available without a transfer fee.
Ayew has earned 124 caps for Ghana and brings extensive experience from English football’s top divisions.
He initially moved to England in 2015, joining Aston Villa from French club Lorient. Since then, Ayew has spent the past 11 years competing in the Premier League and Championship.
His career has also included spells with Crystal Palace and Leicester City. Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder believes Ayew’s experience will provide an important boost to his squad.
“We’re talking about someone here with bags of experience from right at the top level of the game,” Wilder told the club website.
“Only a few months ago he was captaining Ghana in the World Cup, so he’s someone with real pedigree.”
Wilder also highlighted Ayew’s performances at this level last season despite Leicester’s difficult campaign.
“He did well at this level last season in difficult circumstances and has played all across the front positions during his career,” Wilder added. “That gives us plenty of options.”
Ayew’s versatility could prove particularly useful for Sheffield United throughout the remainder of the season.
The Ghanaian forward has experience playing across several attacking positions during his lengthy career.
His arrival also gives Wilder another experienced option as Sheffield United pursue their objectives this season.
Sheffield United Loan Zatterstrom and Ukaki
Alongside Ayew’s arrival, Sheffield United have confirmed two season-long departures involving young players.
Defender Nils Zatterstrom has joined Polish side Rakow Czestochowa on loan for the campaign.
Midfielder Ehije Ukaki has also left the club temporarily after agreeing to join Bulgarian side Botev Plovdiv.
Both players are 21 years old and will spend the season gaining experience away from Bramall Lane.
Swedish defender Zatterstrom has not featured for Sheffield United since joining the club last August.
His move to Rakow Czestochowa provides an opportunity to secure regular playing experience during the current campaign.
Ukaki’s situation is similar, with the Nigerian midfielder having made only one appearance for Sheffield United.

He joined the club from Botev Plovdiv in June last year. His sole appearance came in a Carabao Cup defeat against Birmingham City in August 2025.
The return to Botev Plovdiv now gives Ukaki an opportunity to continue his development in familiar surroundings.
The loan moves also allow Sheffield United to manage their squad while providing both young players with competitive football.
Ayew’s arrival therefore represents the experienced addition, while Zatterstrom and Ukaki will continue their development elsewhere.
The three moves highlight different approaches within Sheffield United’s squad planning for the season.
Ayew offers proven experience across the Premier League and Championship, while the younger players seek valuable first-team opportunities.
With the season now underway, Sheffield United will hope Ayew’s experience and versatility can strengthen their attacking options.
His international pedigree and long career in English football make him one of the squad’s most experienced additions.
