sevendayweekender – Wealdstone have re-signed midfielder Aaron Henry for a third spell after his contract with Boreham Wood was mutually terminated. The 22-year-old has agreed a permanent deal with the National League club.

Henry becomes Wealdstone’s fourth signing of the summer transfer window. The move brings him back to The Vale after two previous loan spells with the Stones.

The midfielder first joined Wealdstone on loan during the 2021-22 season. He made 20 appearances during that campaign after progressing through Charlton Athletic’s academy.

Henry returned to Wealdstone for a second loan spell in the 2023-24 season. He again made 20 appearances and played an important role as the club fought to remain in the National League.

His previous experience at Wealdstone has now led to a permanent return. The midfielder will have an opportunity to continue his career at a club he already knows well.

Henry’s contract with Boreham Wood was mutually terminated before he completed his return to Wealdstone. The agreement allowed him to become available for a permanent move during the summer.

Wealdstone manager Gary Waddock welcomed Henry’s return and highlighted the midfielder’s familiarity with the club. Waddock also said Henry was keen to return to The Vale.

“Aaron knows the club well and was keen to come back,” Waddock told the club website. He described that desire to return as an encouraging sign for the squad.

Henry’s previous spells mean he already understands the club’s environment. His familiarity could also help him settle quickly ahead of the new campaign.

Henry Returns Permanently After Two Previous Wealdstone Loan Spells

Henry’s first spell with Wealdstone came in the 2021-22 season. The Charlton Athletic academy graduate played 20 matches during his initial loan period.

The midfielder returned two seasons later for another temporary spell. He again featured in 20 matches during the 2023-24 campaign.

That second spell came during an important period for Wealdstone. Henry helped the club retain their place in the National League. His experience from that campaign now forms part of his history with the Stones.

Before returning permanently, Henry most recently spent time within a squad competing near the top of the table at Hornchurch. Waddock believes that experience could benefit Wealdstone’s squad.

“Most recently, he’s been in a squad competing at the top of the table at Hornchurch,” Waddock said. He highlighted the experience as a positive for Henry’s mentality.

The manager believes Henry can bring that experience into Wealdstone’s current squad. His previous knowledge of the club should also help him integrate into the team.

The permanent agreement represents a different stage of Henry’s relationship with Wealdstone. His first two appearances for the club came through loan agreements. He will now return as a permanent player.

At 22, Henry remains a young midfielder with considerable experience of National League football. His 40 appearances across two previous Wealdstone loan spells provide a useful foundation for his latest move.

The club’s decision to bring him back also reflects familiarity with his abilities. Henry already knows the demands of playing for Wealdstone. The midfielder can therefore focus on preparing for the new season rather than adapting to an entirely new environment.

His return also adds another player to Wealdstone’s summer recruitment. Henry becomes the fourth signing made by the club during the current transfer window. The Stones will hope his previous experience can strengthen their midfield options.

For Henry, the move provides an opportunity to establish himself at Wealdstone on a long-term basis. His earlier spells gave him experience at the club, while his more recent time at Hornchurch added another competitive environment.
