Her spell in Italy followed a developing career in Norwegian football. Harviken began playing senior football with FL Fart and later represented Roa IL. She moved to Rosenborg in 2022 and went on to make more than 80 appearances for the Norwegian club.
The defender’s performances at Rosenborg helped establish her as a regular at domestic level. She subsequently earned a move to Juventus, where she faced stronger competition and gained international club experience. Her time in Italy also exposed her to Champions League football.
Harviken has been part of Norway’s senior setup since making her international debut in 2022. She progressed through the country’s youth teams before earning her first senior cap. Her development has since included appearances in major international tournaments.
She was selected for Norway’s squad at the 2023 Women’s World Cup. Harviken also represented the national team at Euro 2025. Those tournaments added further experience to a career that has already included domestic titles and European competition.
The move to Aston Villa gives Harviken a new challenge in the Women’s Super League. England’s top division has become one of Europe’s most competitive women’s football leagues. Harviken will now look to continue her development while adapting to a different domestic football environment.
Mathilde Harviken Brings Juventus and Norway Experience to Villa
Aston Villa’s recruitment of Harviken adds another defender with experience at both club and international level. Her nearly 50 appearances for Juventus came during a period of significant success for the Italian club. She also competed in the Women’s Champions League during her time there.
Villa’s director of women’s football Marisa Ewers said the club had tracked Harviken for more than two years. Ewers explained that Villa had remained impressed by the defender’s development. She also highlighted Harviken’s experience despite her relatively young age.
Ewers said the club believes Harviken has the attributes required to make an impact at Aston Villa. She added that the defender can continue developing after joining the Women’s Super League. Villa are therefore expecting both immediate contribution and further progression from the Norway international.
Harviken’s career already includes more than 80 appearances for Rosenborg. Her Norwegian experience was followed by a successful period at Juventus. The combination gives her knowledge of different tactical environments and domestic competitions.
Her honours in Italy are particularly notable. Juventus won the Serie A title and Coppa Italia during the 2024-25 campaign. Harviken also helped the club win the first Serie A Women’s Cup in 2025.
The defender’s international background adds another layer to her experience. She has represented Norway at two major tournaments since making her senior debut. Her involvement at the 2023 Women’s World Cup and Euro 2025 provided exposure to high-level international football.
Aston Villa will now hope Harviken can bring those experiences into their squad. Her defensive experience could strengthen the team’s options while providing additional competition for places. Her familiarity with European football could also benefit teammates during demanding fixtures.
For Harviken, the transfer represents a return to a new phase of her career after a successful period abroad. She leaves Juventus after helping the club win several domestic honours. She now joins Aston Villa with the opportunity to establish herself in England’s top division.
