Taylor spent the previous campaign on loan at Oldham Athletic. He made 16 appearances for the club and scored two goals during his spell.
The midfielder is yet to make his senior debut for Aston Villa. However, he has continued to feature for Villa’s Under-21 side while developing within the club’s system.
Taylor scored for Aston Villa Under-21s in an EFL Trophy match against Wigan Athletic on Tuesday. The goal came shortly before his move to Rochdale was confirmed.
His loan move provides Taylor with another opportunity to gain regular senior football. Rochdale will give him a chance to compete in a first-team environment during the opening months of the season.
The midfielder already has experience of League Two football from his time with Oldham. That previous spell should give him familiarity with the competition and its demands.
