sevendayweekender – Bristol City have re-signed central defender Brooke Aspin from Chelsea on a permanent deal. The 21-year-old returns to the Robins after spending the previous three seasons with the London club. Aspin has also represented England at Under-23 level during her developing career. Her return provides Bristol City with a defender who already knows the club and its environment.
Aspin originally left Bristol City three seasons ago to join Chelsea. The transfer caused frustration at the time because Bristol City did not receive compensation for her departure.

Since joining Chelsea, Aspin continued her development while also gaining international experience. She represented England at the Under-19 European Championships during her time with the London club. Her involvement with England’s youth teams highlighted her potential at international level.
Aspin was later sent on loan to Crystal Palace as part of her development. However, her spell away from Chelsea was disrupted by a serious knee injury. She suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury in November 2024. The injury required a period of rehabilitation and interrupted her progress on the pitch.
Despite spending three seasons at Chelsea, Aspin never made a senior Women’s Super League appearance for the club. Her competitive opportunities at senior level were therefore limited during her time in west London. She now returns to Bristol City seeking a fresh opportunity to continue her career.
Aspin Returns to Bristol City After Chelsea Spell and ACL Injury
Aspin’s return marks an important new chapter following a difficult period in her career. Her move to Chelsea provided an opportunity to develop within one of England’s leading women’s football clubs. However, she was unable to make a senior WSL appearance during her three seasons there.
The defender’s England experience remains another important part of her profile. She represented the national team at Under-19 level during the European Championships. She later progressed to England Under-23 level, demonstrating continued recognition from the national setup.
Bristol City’s decision to bring Aspin back also represents a reunion after the circumstances surrounding her original departure. The club had previously been frustrated by the lack of compensation when she joined Chelsea. The latest permanent agreement now sees the defender return to the Robins.
